Strut Pontoons

Strut Pontoons Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & beyond

For strut pontoons Gold Coast, Brisbane, Bribie Island, Sunshine Coast, Northern NSW and beyond, look no further than Micks Marine Maintenance, your South East Queensland strut pontoons specialists.

If you’re looking for a mid-range, yet very capable pontoon solution for your waterfront home, a strut pontoon may be the perfect option.

Strut pontoons are an economical alternative to piled pontoons. They are ideal for rocky sea beds, deep waters, or close to shoreline structures. They provide the strength and longevity required to support small boats and PWCs.

How Strut Floating Dock Pontoons Work

There are four components of a strut pontoon, which all come together to produce a floating dock system for your Gold Coast, Brisbane, Bribie Island, Sunshine Coast, or Northern NSW waterfront home.

The components comprise a gangway, floating dock, strut arm, and cables.

  • The gangway is the walkway that allows you to move from the shore to the floating dock. It anchors to shore with a concrete mooring block. We fabricate our gangways from marine grade 304 aluminium and offer marine carpet and mesh flooring options.
  • The floating dock connects to the gangway. We can create floating docks for strut pontoons up to 10 metres long (location dependent). Depending on your location and budget, our docks feature 125mm deep concrete decks.
  • The strut arm, which gives strut pontoons their name, is a lightweight aluminium strut (arm) that connects the shoreline to the floating dock. It is positioned on the opposite end to the gangway and prevents the dock from moving closer to land or further out to sea. A concrete mooring block anchors the strut to the shore, similar to the gangway mooring.
  • Finally are the cables, which extend from the shore – crossed over in an X pattern – to each side of the dock. Made from stainless steel, the cable braces provide the stability, which prevents the pontoon from moving from side to side.

Why Choose a Strut Pontoon Dock?

There are many benefits to choosing a strut pontoon as your pontoon of choice. As mentioned above, they are priced mid-range between cable pontoons and piled pontoons. Thus, they are a good all-around option. They provide durability and longevity without paying quite as much as you would have to pay for a piled pontoon.

Secondly, they are often the only suitable option for many waterfront homes. If you want a robust pontoon but have a rocky or deep seabed, then a piled pontoon will probably not be suitable. A strut pontoon is the next best option. As they are void of piles, rocky sea terrain or deep waters is not an issue. Alternatively, if you don’t want a long gangway and prefer a shorter pontoon, a strut pontoon will suffice.
